Janis Nott Williams, a woman of great compassion; a loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Tuesday May 27, 2003 at the age of 76. She was born in Pontiac Michigan June 13, 1926 to Russell Alger Nott and Erma Orschel Nott.
Her family moved to Phoenix in 1937. She attended Osborn School and graduated in the North High class of 1944. She married W.F. "Red" Williams on December 28, 1946. They were married for 50 wonderful years, and first met at Central United Methodist Church where their families attended. Throughout her life she touched people with her kindness and willingness to help others. She was devoted to her family, friends and church. Janis, along with a dear friend, organized a Seniors Group at First United Methodist Church in which she volunteered for 15 years. She was a life member and past president (1980-1981) of Assistance League of Phoenix.
She is survived by her two sons, Paul R. Williams, Mark R. Williams and daughter Leslie W. Whitney; her twin sister Janet Edwards and brother-in-law John P. Edwards of La Canada, CA; her daughter-in-law Korrine Vencel Williams and son-in-law John A. Whitney; and her three grandchildren Jack and Hannah Whitney, and Cory Williams of Phoenix.
A memorial service will be held Saturday June 7, 2003, at 10:00 AM, at the First United Methodist Church, 5510 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley or First United Methodist Church.
