Audrey Beatrice (Cosby) Ellis, 78, was born September 26, 1924 in Washington, Indiana (Daviess County) to Henry and Bertha Cosby. She entered eternal rest on February 23, 2003 in her home in Phoenix, Arizona.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) E. Ellis (married 44 years), her oldest daughter, Vicki E. Ellis (February 27, 1987), and two brothers, Elmer and Ernest Cosby.
Audrey maintained two meat markets and held other various jobs to supplement income, caring for their five children while Bill served in the U. S. Army. They moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1964. In 1971, Bill and Audrey moved to San Simon, Arizona where they lived until he died in 1989. Audrey moved to Phoenix in 1991 to be near her children.
She lived with one of her daughters and son-in-law until her death. Audrey held membership in the Eastern Star and Veale Creek Baptist Church in her hometown. She was an avid quilter and had donated quilts to the AHS Auxiliary. She loved to play bingo and made many friends there. She liked going to the casino. She was very creative and talented in doing crafts, sewing, and making handmade cards. Everyone loved receiving the cards she made they were truly "keepers". But most of all, Audrey loved her family.
Although she will be greatly missed, Audrey was surrounded by love from her family and those who knew her. She is survived by her children: Peggy Ellis-Ash (Dick); William Douglas Ellis (Karen); Mary Jane-Rappleyea (Lee); and Brett Cosby Ellis (April). Also surviving are grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A visitation/service at 3 p.m. will be held for family and friends on February 27, 2003 at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Rd., Phoenix, Arizona. Graveside services to be held on a later date at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ.
