Courtesy of Pat Wilson. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 02/21/2003 Arden Key died Feb. 16, 2003 in Whiteriver. He was born July 14, 1954, grew up in Phoenix and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Marines Corps. from 1973 to 1976. He was well known for his artwork which included Kachina doll carvings and Apache Crown Dancer carvings, and the traditional Apache violin. He won numerous awards and was recognized in many newspaper articles for his artwork. Arden loved learning about and practicing Apache traditional songs, dances and ceremonies. He was a member of the Seven-mile Holy Ground Prayer Group. He is survived by his children, Curtis Arden Key and Charlene Marisa Key of Phoenix, Joshua Eli Key and Alberta Evelyn-Nandia Key; stepson, Eric Nathan Cassadore of Whiteriver; mother, Nandia Irvin; step-father, Harvey Irving and step-mother Bernice Key; fire sisters; Sally Nashio of Whiteriver, Lorraine Russell, Geraldine Pike, Inez Bread and Opal Key of San Carlos; six brothers, Gerald Thorne of Phoenix; MacArthur Key, Lyman Key of San Carlos, Robert Key Jr. and Rudolph Key of Phoenix, Lynn Key of Whiteriver; two goddaughters, Jeanette Goseyun, Vernadale Dahkoshay Lupe; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kateri Johnson Key and son Richard Martinez; father, Robert Key Sr.; sister, Rosarita Key Apadaca and brother, Spencer Key. His body will be brought back Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. at the home of Nellie Jones in Peridot. There will be a one night wake Sunday, Feb. 23. There will be a home service at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Peridot Cemetery. Donations can be brought to Sally Nashio's residence or Ruth Key's residence in Rainbow City Community. Arrangements are being handled by Lamont Mortuary in Globe.
