Marlene Flaaen, 69, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away March 4, 2003 with her husband, Ernie, at her side. She was born on April 17, 1933 in Fort Francis, Ontario, Canada to Harold and Ruth McLean.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, William McLean and son, Steven Eric.
Marlene was raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she attended public and private schools. She obtained her nursing certificate from Chas T. Miller Hospital in St. Paul.
She married her husband Ernest Flaaen on April 21, 1956 and gave birth to five children. She moved to Phoenix with her husband and children in 1963 and continued her nursing career at various valley hospitals including St. Josephs, John C. Lincoln and Good Samaritan. She also worked as a private duty nurse and as a staff nurse in local doctors' offices.
Marlene is survived by her husband Ernie, four children and their spouses; Richard (Jeanne), Thomas (Karen), Lynn Flaaen-Hanna (Jeff) and Peder (Diane), nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, 9720 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria, AZ. Visitation will take place on Friday, March 7, 2003 from 6:00 and 8:00 PM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave., Glendale. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Blessed Sacrament Church of Tolleson, 512 N. 93rd Ave.
