STEIN, Lyle Sherman


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Thursday, March 6, 2003 Lyle Sherman Stein, 82, of Phoenix, passed away March 4, 2003. He was born in Pulaski, Iowa on March 10, 1920. Lyle worked in the farming industry until he was drafted. He was a Seargent in the Army from 1941 -1945 working as a medic and carpenter. Lyle was in the Army Air Force Mobile Construction Unit in New Guinea, Admiralty Islands, Guadalcanal, Philippine Islands and Japan. He met and married Helen Dickinson on January 24, 1943 while stationed at Luke AFB, Arizona. Lyle was a volunteer softball coach for his daughters as well as a Camp Fire Dad. He was active in the Monte Vista Baptist Church and community work (VICAP) even after he retired from the insurance and real estate business. He enjoyed his home repair business after retirement, serving other retired citizens. Lyle is survived by his daughters, Linda (Don) Jerome, of Flagstaff; and Louise (Gene) Pitzer, of Texas; and his grandchildren, Sherry Wilkinson, of Michigan; and Timothy Jerome, of Apache Junction. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Monte Vista Baptist Church, 2409 N. 36th St., Phoenix, Az. Arrangements by Mercer Chapel. Courtesy of Pat Wilson.
