Frank L. Simonson, at 96 years old, was called home peacefully in his sleep, Thursday morning, May 29, 2003. He was born July 3, 1906 in Albert Lea, Minnesota and was a graduate of Albert Lea High Class of 1925. He won an academic scholarship to a parochial college in Iowa, but was unable to attend. He moved to Phoenix in 1926. He found steady work with Calapco, which eventually became Arizona Public Service for whom he worked for 38 years as a meter specialist and foreman.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 387), which he recently received recognition as a 60 year member. He retired from APS in 1971. Frank was active on the board of APS Retiree's Association for many years. In addition, he was a member and a parishioner of Saint Simon and Jude Catholic Church for over 45 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Vera Simonson. Survivors include his 6 children; Jo Ann Armstrong, James Simonson, Judie Ritz, Gary Simonson, and Geri Gabriel of AZ and Steven Simon-son of Los Angeles, CA, 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and his lovely Ruth Kinney.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM, with scripture at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, 6/3, A.L. Moore Grimshaw Bethany Chapel, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd., Phx. Funeral Mass is 10:00 AM, Wednesday, 6/4, Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Ave., Phx.
He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mausoleum following mass, 2300 W. Van Buren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Arizona, 2222 W. Northern Ave., Phx., AZ 85021 or Assisted Living of Cave Creek, 20652 N. 16th Way, Phx., AZ 85024 in his name.
