PURLINA, John Michael

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Friday, March 7, 2003 John Michael Purlia, 55, of Scottsdale, joined his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 2, 2003. An Arizona native, Michael was an entrepreneur whose talents and extreme vision was seen in his numerous business endeavors and in the management of the family business for over 25 years. They say that a man's worth is measured in the love for his family. Michael was a loving husband to Terri, his wife of 19 years, who was always his beauty queen. He took his role as a step-father and grand-father very seriously, and was readily available to give advice, whether wanted or not. But his broad shoulders and gentle heart were always there to offer comfort and love to his stepdaughter, Vicki Dahlstrand, stepson, Patrick Ecklund, and grandson, Jacob Kelly. He was a devoted and loving son to his mother, Irene, and father, George. He took comfort in being able to help his sister, Linda Lairson, and his brother, George "Louie" Purlia in the care giving of their mother during her recent illness. But most of all, Michael was a compassionate man with a strong faith in God, who continually put into practice his beliefs. He was a friend to everyone he met. One always came away from a visit with Michael knowing of his profound love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Michael's sudden heart attack has left our minds reeling and our own hearts shattered. Though we know you are gone and will be forever missed, we find comfort in knowing that you are resting in the glory of the Lord. Michael is also survived by his best friend and youngest brother, Paul; four nieces; five nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2003 at Hansen Desert Hills Chapel and Memorial Park, 6500 E. Bell Rd., Scottsdale, Arizona. Doors open at 1:00 PM and the service will begin at 2:00 PM. Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the American Heart Assn, or your favorite charity, in Michael's name. Courtesy of Pat Wilson.
