Jerry Mosby
Jerry Mosby Davis was born June 6, 1933, in York, Arizona, the son of Travis and Margaret Foote Davis. He grew up attending school in Duncan.
While in high school, Jerry met Patsy McCarty. Following graduation, he continued courting Patsy. They were married October 4, 1952 at the Clifton Baptist Church parsonage. Jerry soon obtained work with Phelps Dodge Mining Corporation of Morenci.
In 1953, Jerry and Patsy relocated their young family to Sierra Vista, eventually returning to Duncan in 1958. It was that year that Jerry began serving on the Livestock Sanitary Board as a livestock cattle inspector. His service as an inspector continued until 1972.
In 1968, Jerry began working as a Deputy Sheriff to the Greenlee County Sheriff. He continued his work as a peace officer until 1972. In the mid 1970’s, Jerry returned to Phelps Dodge Mining Corporation in Morenci. He continued his employment with the copper mine until retiring in 1995, following more than 25 years of dedicated service. In retirement, Jerry and Patsy could often be found on the old homestead at Blackjack.
He also continued to working around the ranch, spending much time on a horse or on his backhoe. On October 4, 2006, Jerry and Patsy were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Temple. Jerry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Virden Ward, Greenlee County Sheriff’s Posse, Cattle Growers Association and the Elk’s Lodge. He will be remembered as a horseman and cattle rancher.
Jerry leaves behind: his beloved wife of 57 years, Patsy, of York Valley; a daughter, Patti Ann Thygerson, of Queen Creek, Arizona; two sons, Michael (Tammie) and Mickey (Chery), of Safford; two sisters, Sue Romney, of Thatcher and Peggy Crawford (Johnny), of Duncan; three brothers, Buddy, of Sandy, Utah, Tommy (Sherri), of Sunsites, Arizona and Robert (Evelyn), of York Valley; eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by: his sister Joyce Fink; a brother, James and two great-grandchildren, Annie Lou Brown and Gus Frie.
