MCCLENNEN, Louis


Louis McClennen, born May 29, 1912, Cambridge MA passed away May 29, 2003 in Phoenix, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Miriam (Mim) Jacobs McClennen, and his children: Adams, James, Helen, Persis, Crane, and Emery, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He graduated cum laude Harvard Univ. in 1934 and Harvard Law School in 1937, began practicing that year at Nutter, McClennen & Fish in Boston. Served as a Major in the USAAF during WWII, moved to Phoenix in 1946, where he was a sole practitioner, a partner in Fennimore, Craig, Allen & McClennen, and a partner in Allen, McClennen & Fels. He was the author of Arizona Estate Tax (1953), co-author of the Arizona Income Tax Regulations (1954), and author of numerous articles in legal journals. He was an Adjunct Professor of federal taxation at Arizona State Univ. Law School and a member of the American Law Institute, ABA and AZ Bar Assoc. Over the years, he has been Regional Director of the Harvard Alumni Association; a founder and Director of the Phoenix Day School; President of the Arizona Board of Education, the A. S. U. Law Society, the Maricopa County Legal Aid Society; Pres. and Director of Phoenix Symphony Association, Visiting Nurses Service and Lawyers Club of Phoenix; Vice-President of the Harvard Law School Association; VP and Director, the Maricopa County Bar Association and the Phoenix United Fund; a member of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Academy; and a Trustee of the Northern Arizona Museum. He is a member of the Phoenix Country Club and the Eastward Ho Country Club Chatham, Mass. At his request ashes will be buried in the family plot in Harwich, MA.
