Obit: BLACK'S MORTUARY, Show Low, Arizona. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona 01/08/2010 Reverend John Howard Davis, 87, of Heber went peacefully to be with our Lord Jesus Christ Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2009. John was born May 12, 1922, in Clarkdale. He was raised on a small family farm in Scottsdale. He graduated from Scottsdale High School in 1940. John went to work full time for the Arizona Gazette newspaper as a stereotyper right out of high school. John H. Davis and Margie L. Ellis were married June of 1940. He joined the Navy and volunteered for very dangerous duty aboard the Navy's P.T. boats in both the European and Pacific campaigns during WWII. He served his country proudly and bravely during the war. John was honorably discharged in November of 1945. After the end of WW II, John returned to his family in Scottsdale and went back to work for the Phoenix Gazette newspaper. John entered Grand Canyon College in 1949 to begin his education to prepare him to become a minister. He graduated from college in 1953. He then moved his family to the Bay Area of California to attend Golden Gate Seminary to further prepare him for his work in the ministry. After completion of his seminary work, John was ordained as a Southern Baptist minister and had pastored many churches in both California and Arizona. John also served as a chaplain for V.A. and private hospitals, Arizona State Senate, Prescott Valley Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety in both Prescott and Heber. John was a loving husband and father and will be missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife Margie Lea Davis of 69 years, two daughters Linda Ness (Bob) of Heber, Patty Banach (Joe) of Stanwood, Wash., eight grandchildren and 14 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Anna Sharon and Brenda. The immediate family held a private ceremony in John's name. The family request that any donations be made to Hospice Care of the White Mountains to show the family's appreciation for the concern and understanding kindness shown by Hospice during this difficult time for the family.
