Sunday, March 9, 2003
Julia H. Morgan, born March 4, 1912 near Las Cruces, NM, to Frankie
Mae Huff and John Henry Nusbaum. She died three days after her 91st
birthday on March 7, 2003 in Glendale, AZ.
One of 13 children Julia is the last of her generation. She followed
her husband James W. Morgan to Glendale from El Paso, TX, in October
of 1935 with her oldest son, Wesley. On February 2, 1936 she gave
birth to Clarence; on October 24, 1937 she gave birth to Frankie
Alice and on April 1, 1939 she gave birth to Mary Katherine. In 1940
the family purchased a home on a small acreage East of Glendale where
she lived out her life.
She operated the Golden Rule Nursery and Kindergarten in Glendale
from 1951 until 1973. Julia understood the power of love and reached
out to many. For many years, she visited the TB wards of the old
Maricopa County Hospital to write letters and help in any way she
could. TB was highly contagious and to be sent to the facility was
essentially a death sentence but she went year after year. She was a
faithful member of the Glendale Free Methodist Church from 1936 until
her death. She was a friend and help to many in her life and a woman
of great faith. Julia was a bell ringer volunteer for the Salvation
Army for many years. She assumed the best, expected the best and did
her best.
Her husband Jim (Slim) died in 1971 and in 1977 Julia married an old
family friend, Charles Curavo with whom she shared twelve years. Her
sons, Wesley and Clarence Morgan, daughter, Frankie Brown, (Mrs.
Emery Brow), all of Glendale, and Mary Vandever, (Mrs. Gerald
Vandever), of Prescott, survive her with 12 grandchildren and 23
great- grandchildren, many whom still live in the Glendale area.
Visitation 5-8 PM, Tuesday, March 11th, at Chapel of the Chimes,
Glendale, AZ. Funeral service, 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 12th, at
Glendale Free Methodist Church, 6331 W. Lamar Ave., Glendale, AZ.
