JAMES, Calvin E., (Dr.)


The Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona ~ 12/31/2009 Dr. Calvin E. James, 83, of Flagstaff, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 at the Olivia White Hospice Home. Dr. James was born July 1, 1926, to Cyrus and Thelma James. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and he served in Okinawa. Mr. James was a professor of higher education. He was president of Yavapai Community College from 1972-1974 before coming to Flagstaff to be Dean of Applied Science and Technology at NAU. He is a member of Epsilon Pi Tau Honorary Fraternity, Pi. As much as he loved being an educator, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, fixing and restoring old cars. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley; children, Peter (Sandy) James, Mike James, Tim James, Beth (Robert) Bogs, Sarah (Chuck) LaRue and Andrew James; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother. Funeral service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Citizens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and School, 2605 N. Fort Valley Road.
