James Carl Brown
(June 6, 1928 - December 24, 2009)
James Carl Brown, 81, left this world Dec. 24, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, in Flagstaff. Carl was a retired systems engineer for the Black Mesa Pipeline. His academic background included geophysics and engineering studies at the New Mexico School of Mines and Technology in Socorro, and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Carl had a love for the great outdoors, was an avid explorer of the Southwest, and enjoyed fly fishing, camping and summers in Colorado. His engineering expertise continued into retirement as his advice was continually sought by family and friends for numerous projects. He had a love for history, writing, and continuing education. He was a proud, life-long member of the BPO of Elks and was a longtime resident of Flagstaff. Carl retired in the Cottonwood, Camp Verde area, in 1988.
Born in Tulia, Texas, on June 6, 1928, Carl was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Kitty) Brown and his son, Matthew Burke Brown.
He is survived by sons Chet Brown; Brad Brown (Beth); Boe Brown (Tina); Robert Simpson (Lou Lin); and daughters Cindy Harris (Jerry) and Deborah Lukehart. Carl was blessed with 12 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; as well as nephews James “Mac” McGregor (Anne); Don Schreiber (Jane) and niece Anna Schreiber Cook (Hank).
Private services have been held. In lieu of flowers, it was Carl’s wish that any donations be made to Northland Hospice, P.O. Box 997, Flagstaff, AZ 86002
