Greers Mortuary, Winslow, Arizona Amanda Renae Wilcox, 23, of Winslow, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 in Winslow. Miss Wilcox was born Nov. 15, 1986, to Toni (Wilcox) Villanueva and Pilar Gonzales III in Topeka, Kansas. She is of the TodiChiinii (Bitterwater) Clan born for Nakai Dine'e (Mexican) Clan; her maternal grandfather was of the Winter clan from Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo and her paternal grandfather is Nakai Dine'e (Mexican) clan. She was baptized in Topeka. She traveled home to Winslow when she was one week old. At age 1, she was blessed in Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo in New Mexico, the home of her great-grandmother, Dorothy (Gabaldon) Wilcox, and given a family name of Blue Rainbow. She attended Winslow public schools and graduated from Winslow High School in 2005. She attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., for two years. After that, she moved back to Arizona and attended four classes at Coconino Community College and then Northern Arizona University. She was employed, part time, at Dr. Singh's office in Flagstaff. She always loved sports and participated in basketball, volleyball and softball. She loved softball the most and played on the all-star team many years. She loved her teammates and remained close to most of them. She was so much fun to be with and the family has many wonderful memories of her. She danced Jingle dress at pow-wows and it seemed second nature to her. She also took part in dances at Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo in New Mexico. She was once featured in American Girl Magazine when she was the head girl dancer for a pow-wow in Santa Fe, N.M. Her love of dance spanned both her cultures as she participated in NPC Ballet Folkiorico for many years. Miss Wilcox is survived by her mother, Toni; stepfather Richard Villanueva; father Pilar (III) and stepmother Lorraine Gonzales; sisters Robina, Richelyn and Reyli; brother Ricardo Jr; maternal grandmother Lucille Wilcox; maternal great-grandmother Dorothy Wilcox; stepbrother Bobby Lucero of Phoenix; paternal grandparents Pilar (Jr) and Linda Gonzales; stepgrandmother Josie Lucero; paternal stepgrandparents Luis and Irma Villanueva of Mercedes, Texas; grandparents Joe and Elvira Wilcox, Dean and Millie Wilcox, all of Winslow; and several aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by grandfather Ted Wilcox; stepgrandfather Ambrose Lucero; grandfathers Norman and George Wilcox; uncles Joseph A. and Michael A. Wilcox; great-aunt Verna J. Wilcox; and great-grandfather Joe B. Wilcox Sr. Holy Rosary was recited Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today at 10 a.m. with celebrant Father Frank Chacon. Interment to follow at Desert View Cemetery. Condolences can sent to www.greersmortuary.com .
