The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ December 30, 2009, p. A6 Richard “Dick” Conklin, 82, passed away to a quiet place on Tuesday, Dec. 22 with his wife and daughter by his side. Dick, being an organ donor, will be cremated according to his wishes. A celebration of his life was conducted at the Wickenburg Country Club Tuesday (Dec. 29). Graveside services will be held in Iowa at a later date. Dick was born in Kalona, Iowa to Frank and Edith Dawson Conklin. Richard was a barber in Iowa for 43 years. He was a member of the Elks Club, Masonic Lodge, and the Lions Club. As an avid golfer, Dick was a member of the Fairfield, Iowa, Golf and Country Club and the Wickenburg, Ariz., Country Club. He had a passion for golf, stories, song, dance, life and world travel. Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years Hazel June; his two daughters Deborah (Patrick) Kinney of Oxford, Iowa, and Sally (Alberto) Salazar of Whidbey Island, Wash.; and three incredible grandchildren -- David, Sarah, and Eric who loved and admired him every day. His positive encouragement and outlook on life will remain an example to us all. Go Hawks!! David’s Desert Chapel in Wickenburg handled the arrangements.
