The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ December 30, 2009, p. A10 George Roth passed away on Dec. 15. He was born in Pittsburg, Pa., on Feb. 12, 1926. He learned to fly at age 14 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps at 17. In World War II, George flew B-17s, B-24s, and B-25s. He was attach/ to General Curtis Lamay (father of the Strategic Air Command) until 1951. While ferrying a B-25 from South Dakota to Los Angeles, he ran out of fuel and landed in Salome, Ariz. George said men from General Patton’s tank core in Bouse refueled the plane. After the war, George worked in the aviation industry until moving to Salome in 1988. He was the first permanent member of Indian Hills Airpark. He taught classes for Arizona State University, worked as a volunteer sheriff’s deputy for La Paz County for 12 years, and was a lifetime member of the VFW. George was preceded in death by his first wife Frieda Roth. He is survived by his second wife Dixie Walton Roth; daughters Ronda in Florida and Marie in Illinois; and son George Jr. in California. A memorial tribute will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9 starting with an 11 a.m. multi-plane fly-over at Indian Hills Airpark, followed by a luncheon at the airpark. At 6 p.m., a memorial service will be held at the Little Church of Hope in Hope, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Little Church of Hope would be appreciated.
