Lyle D. Nation, 66, of Surprise, went peacefully to be with the Lord April 13, 2002 following an open-heart surgery.
Lyle was born March 7, 1936 in Sterling, Colo. to Louis and Thelma Nation. He was one of seven children. His elementary school years were spent at Graylin Elementary in Logan County, Colo. He was a graduate of Sterling High's Class of 1954.
On June 3, 1956 he married Ruth Wilson, his high school sweetheart. They started their life together in Sterling. Lyle spent his working years ranching, mining for gold, and working in the oilfields in Colorado, South Dakota, and New Mexico.
In 1991 he retired from Meridian Oil in Farmington, N.M. His retirement years were spent ranching RVing, and enjoying time with friends and family. Lyle moved to Arizona in 1996.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, all three of his brothers, and one sister.
His survivors include his loving wife Ruth, of Surprise; one daughter, Nina Hepner and her husband Les of Bloomfield, N.M.; one son, Lance Nation of Newport News, Va.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, two sisters, and many other loved ones.
Visitation and funeral arrangements were under the direction of SunWest Funeral Home in El Mirage. Services were Tuesday, April 16, with cremation following. Ashes will be scattered on Father's Day in Sterling, Colo.
