Dorothy Aurelea Coe, 87, of Wickenburg, passed away at home on Friday, Aug. 16.
Dorothy was born in Goldthwaite, Texas on Nov. 28, 1914. She moved to Wickenburg in 1969 and was the manager of Shady River Ranch, now known as the Hassayampa River Preserve.
In her earlier years Dorothy pursued a career in archaeology working with the George Kenniman Foundation, an organization concerned with Egyptian and Indian history. During those years she preserved Indian pictographs and petroglyphs, copying them onto canvas using her own technique of sand painting. Her work was displayed in many libraries, banks and museums across the country.
Dorothy will be deeply and lovingly missed by all that knew her. She is survived by her children, Patricia Kopp of Wickenburg, Sis Snyder of Bullhead City, John O. Thompson of Billings, Mont., and Lynne Graham of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; her son-in-law, Fred Kopp of Wickenburg, and daughter-in-law Darlene Thompson of Billings.
Also surviving are her grandchildren: Rusty Rossey, Robin Brown (Richard Svacha), Tracy Skvarek (Frank), Grady Andrus (Lorena), Patrick Strickland, Ted Marquis, Tim Marquis, Tom Marquis (Wendy), Tammy Teats (John), Terri Stout, Todd Marquis (Haley), Tadd Marquis, Jay Bonete, John Thompson, Susan Thompson, Erin Thompson and Gina Graham (Andy Mettler). Great-grandchildren: Jessica and Patricia Rossey, Angela Kensinger, Petty Officer 3rd Class Terry and Travis Brown, Steven (Stephanie), Airman 1st Class Spencer, Kristin and Bryan Wheeler, C.J., Taylor and Sarah Skvarek, Connor Strickland, Kristopher and Kimberly Marquis, Travis, Kyle and Jennifer Marquis, Tommy, Sierra and A.J. Marquis, Travis and Tanya Teats, Taylor, Timothy, Tadd, Alicia and Alizia Stout, Steven and Heather Marquis, Asia Marquis, Aaron and Amber Thompson and Alexandra "Chance" Mettler.
Great-great grandchildren: Zoe and Zarren Snyder.
A memorial service will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, which would have been her 88th birthday.
Private cremation was handled by All Care Cremation and Burial Services of Phoenix.
