The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, April 2, 2003 Mercedes A. Knight of Tempe, Knight, 81, was born to Ceferano and Leonor Liano in Clifton, AZ and was raised in Miami. She attended Arizona State Teachers College in Flagstaff and the University of Arizona in Tucson. She married O. Thomas Knight of Globe who spent 32 years in the Navy with posts in California, Texas, Florida, Virginia and Chile. Upon his retirement from the Navy in 1972 they spent a year in Europe and returned to Arizona settling in Tempe. She was active in bridge and Navy wives circles in the Phoenix area. Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons, Thomas R. Knight of Tucson and Gary D. Knight of Falls Church, Virginia and daughter Nancy A. Gordon of Falls Church; 2 grandsons, 4 granddaughters and 2 great-grandsons. There will be a viewing from 5PM to 7PM on Wednesday, April 2nd at Family Burial Center in Mesa. There will be a Mass at 10AM on Thursday April 3 at Church of the Resurrection in Mesa followed by a reception at the church.
