Gary Carlisle, 25 year old resident of Burbank, Calif., stepped in front of an automobile on Highway 60-70-89-93 at Whittmann early Saturday morning, July 17, and was killed instantly. He became the ninth highway fatality of the year in the Wickenburg Highway patrol district.
Highway patrolman Bill Roller, the investigating officer, said the car which struck Carlisle was going west and was driven by William Harris, 22, of Eureka, Calif. Harris told Roller he saw the man walk on to the highway about 400 feet east of the bridge (the one with eight or nine white crosses nearby) and swerved his car but was unable to avoid striking him.
The Highway Patrol man said a ’49 Plymouth, registered in the name of W. E. Hicks, Hassayampa Hotel, Prescott. Was found parked alongside the road after the accident. It is believed Carlisle was driving that car.
