John H.
John H. Jett, Services for Oro Valley resident, John H. Jett. 85, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Christ The King Episcopal Church, 1800 W. Ina Rd, Tucson. He died peacefully May 30, 2003, at Odyssey Hospice in Tucson.
He was born July 19, 1917 in Lake Village, Ark. to Robert L. and Dessie McDaniel Jett. John came to Arizona in 1939 and worked for Phelps Dodge Corporation in Bisbee for several years and served in the U.S. Army during the second World War. He returned to Bisbee and attended the University of Arizona, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering. He returned to Bisbee where he assisted in the planning for the Lavender Pit.
After leaving Phelps Dodge in 1952 he worked in Colorado for the Atomic Energy Commission and in Denver where he became President of Vulcan Denver Corporation, a manufacturer of mining equipment. He returned to Arizona in 1970 and became Director of the Arizona Department of Mines and Minerals, a position which he held until 1988 when he retired to Tucson.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mildred, three daughters, Ellen (Herbert) Dreyer of Palm Desert, Calif. , Marilyn (Walter) Majerczyk, Juliet Jett of Evanston, Wyo. and six grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Dessie Harris of Bisbee, and Frances (William) Norick of Tucson.
