Kenneth Noel Tipton, age 82, succumbed to lung cancer on 27 March 2003.
Mary, his wife of 62 years, was by his side. Born 16 April 1920, Kenneth grew up hunting squirrels and rabbits in the woods around the family farm in Cooke County, Texas, and was an excellent marksman. His love of the outdoors and hunting continued throughout his life. Kenneth and Mary DeMar married in Colbert, Oklahoma on August 13, 1940, moving to Phoenix shortly after their wedding. They made their home in Phoenix for most of their 62 years of marriage.
Kenneth served as a Private in the Army in 1944. After WWII, Kenneth worked for Goettl Bros. Metal Products, where he was a journeyman sheet metal mechanic. He was respected for his integrity and reliability, as well as for his expert skills.
After retirement in 1982, Kenneth enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets, and working at home on his yard, but spending time with his family was his favorite activity. Camping with his grandchildren every summer was a priority. His family and friends will miss his sparkle, his storytelling, and his strength.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Sidney Tipton, his mother Eva Inez Sherrill Dalton, and step-father, Leonard "Jack" Dalton; and by his brothers Hayden and Raymond Howard Tipton.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Tipton; sister Euna Mae Coppinger (Cliff); son Jerry S. Tipton (Cindy); daughters Eva Van Ess (Edward), all of Phoenix, and Caroline J. Miller (Ivan), of Monterey, CA; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
