SADONGEI, Irwin


Irwin Sadongei, born December 18, 1925 in Mountain View, Oklahoma, passed away on December 29, 2002. He served in the U.S. Navy, Pacific, Seaman First Class during World War II. He came to Phoenix in 1950 to attend Cook Christian Training School. While at Cook, he met his wife of 46 years Margaret Bucillio Sadongei who precedes him in death. Together, they conducted Christian Education classes on the Fort McDowell Indian Reservation and at other locations throughout the west. Irwin worked at the Phoenix Indian High School as a civil service employee for 30 years. A provider for his family, he is survived by three children, Franklin, Martha, Alyce and son-in-law Phil Cash Cash, a brother Daniel and sister Rosemary Toyebo, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation at Paradise Chapel, 3934 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, January 1st, 2003, followed by a memorial service at Central Presbyterian Church, 37 E. Indian School Road. Interment will be at Rainy Mountain Kiowa Indian Baptist Church, Mountain View, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley. Irwin was a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma. Published in the Arizona Republic on 12/31/2002.
