FIKES, Delmar (Charlie)

Delmar "Charlie" Fikes, 71, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2003, surrounded by his loving family & friends. He was born on August 22, 1931 in Royale, Arkansas and his family moved to Arizona in 1933. Devoted husband to Rose for 38 years. Caring and generous father, fun and involved grandfather. A passionate reader who loved to share life stories. He was an Army veteran and cherished his "other" family at the 222nd Transportation Company from which he retired as an SFC after almost 40 years of dedicated service. He is preceded in death by his father, Crawford Fikes, mother, Edna Meredith, step-father, John Meredith, sister, Johnnie, sons, Gordon & Charlie; and granddaughter, Juliette. He is survived by his wife, Rose; children: Jim, Christine, Karen, David, Rick and Judie; sisters, Betty Stevenson and Judy Neverett; brother, Darryl Meredith; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. We will all miss him so much! Services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2003 at 10:00am at West Phoenix Baptist Church, 4449 W. Indian School Road, followed by Interment at 1:30pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road. Published in the Arizona Republic on 5/1/2003.
