Senora Norma Carrera Garcia died at home surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in 1941 in Ajo, AZ. She was educated at Arizona State University, Spanish and English (BA)1967, Spanish (MA) 1973. She taught Spanish, American History and Life from 1967 to 2002 to the students of Tempe and Marcos de Niza high schools. Voted Marcos de Niza Teacher of the Year in 1989-90. Won Tempe Diablos' Award of Excellence for Outstanding Teacher 1984-85 and 1996- 97 and 3 time recipient of Who's Who Among American Teachers. She is survived by her father, Ignacio "Nino the Great' Carrera. Husband Miguel A. Garcia, daughters Rebecca and Sara, granddaughters Jynessa, Victoria, Mira Grace, great-granddaughter Chloe Elizabeth, and siblings Roland, Margaret and Loraine. Viewing and rosary Thursday, June 27th, 2002, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1551 E. Dana Ave. Mesa. Funeral mass Friday, June 28th at 9:30 a.m. Viewing Friday 6 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ajo Arizona with burial Saturday morning. Arrangements by Lakeshore Mortuary, Mesa.
