Mary Palmer Marsh, was born March 13th 1928, in Burlington, Vermont, as Mary Teresa Palmer. She was raised, and spent the majority of her life in a small town in Vermont known as New Haven.
She married Gordon F. Marsh Sr. and they raised five children. She was very involved in local politics. In 1976 she was the first woman in the state of Vermont to be elected into the office of Selectman. That same year
She lost her husband to heart disease and never remarried. Not long after that she became involved in Economic Development at the county and State level.
Before moving to Fountain Hills, Arizona, she held the position of Town Manager in Williamstown, Vermont. After leaving that position and moving to Fountain Hills, she held the position of Manager of the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce.
She later worked as Manager for the Phoenix Indian Center, in there Economic Development programs. In the early nineties, Until her death, she held positions on many boards and was the Director of the Cattle Guard Community Alliance, working to keep high school age children off drugs.
Mary died on March 23rd at Scottsdale Healthcare, Shea. It was ten days after her 75th birthday.
A son and a daughter in Arizona, a son and a daughter in Vermont, a son in Maine, twelve grandchildren, and five great grandchildren survive Mary.
Visitation followed by a rosary will be held at Messengers Funeral home in Fountain Hills, on Friday, April 4th, starting at 7:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held at Fountain Hills Church of the Ascension on Saturday, April 5th at 10:00 A.M.
