WHITSELL, Robert H.


Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, April 02, 2008 Robert H. Whitsell was born Aug. 7, 1919, in Sacramento, Calif., to Ruth and William Whitsell. Bob joined the service to become a pilot in February 1942. While at the Santa Ana Airbase, he met his wife, Leona Griffen. He graduated from Williams Air Force Base in Chandler, Ariz., on Jan. 4, 1943. He was sent to the South Pacific and became a captain and flew two tours of duty totaling almost 100 missions. Bob returned in 1945 and went back to school. He went to work at Air Research for 34 years. Bob is survived by his wife Leona; two sons, Stephen and Craig and wife Karen; and a daughter, Leanne Hemphill and husband Timothy. He has three grandchildren, Monae Jessen and husband Chance, Ashley and Marrisa Whitsell. He also has two great-grandchildren, Alexandria Jensen and Victoria Jensen. He was a wonderful man and he will be missed by all who know him. Happy landing, dear-heart. Information provided by survivors.
