SCALA, Joseph L.


Joseph L Scala passed away on June 23, 2002. Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 30, 1928, Joe retired to Florida in l99O then relocated to Sun Lakes in 1996. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary, his 4 children: Jack, Peter, Joanne and Joseph, Jr., his 2 grandchildren: Melissa and Rebecca, and his brother Peter. A quiet man, Joe was a very generous and thoughtful friend to many. He was a very grateful member of Gamblers Anonymous who recently celebrated 38 years of total abstinence from gambling. His positive recovery experience served as an inspiration to countless other compulsive gamblers. In addition to his work in G.A. Joe volunteered to help many others by providing transportation, respite care and company for the homebound. Joe was very happy during his retirement years in Arizona and enjoyed indulging in his various hobbies, including gemology, jewelry making and other crafts. Joe will be remembered as a very giving soul and will be sorely missed. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Published in the Arizona Republic June 27, 2002.
