STETLER, Effie Blanche

Mrs. Effie Blanche Wilson Stetler, 92, of Sun City, AZ, passed away June 12, 2002. Effie B. Stetler was born in Protection, Kansas on September 29, 1909 to Alice and George Wilson. She had 5 sisters and 5 brothers all now deceased. In 1940 she married Loren Edward Stetler. Effie resided in Wichita, Kansas during World War II while her husband spent four years overseas serving as an officer in the Chemical Warfare Dept. of the United States Army. After his safe return home the couple lived for a time in Emporia, Kansas before settling in Topeka, Kansas where Effie returned to classroom teaching eventually becoming a Reading Specialist in the Topeka School System. She received her B.E. degree from Friends University in 1940 and later received her Master's Degree from Emporia State. She was an Elementary School Teacher for 40 years; a Sunday School Teacher for 20 years and a Girl Scout Leader for 5 years. She has served as the Vice President of AAUW and is a Past President of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Sorority and a Past President of The International Teacher's Association. Following her retirement from teaching in 1976, she moved to Arizona and established residence in Tolleson. While there, she served as the President of the Tolsun Farms Homeowner's Association and the Chairperson of the Welcoming Committee. In 1981 she moved to Sun City where she enjoyed participating in all types of arts and crafts and did a lot of traveling. She was gifted at knitting, crocheting and embroidery and a creator of beautiful quilts. She was a member of Grace Bible Church and has been actively involved in church activities. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Stetler Carroll and her son-in-law Harry Carroll and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Sunland Lakeside Chapel, Sunland Memorial Park Mortuary at 15826 Del Webb Blvd. Sun City, Arizona. Published in the Arizona Republic June 27, 2002.
