The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Saturday, April 5, 2003 Jimmie Jean (Lonsdale) Smith, age 67, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on April 2, 2003, after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Mercedes, Texas, Nov. 21, 1935, and moved to Phoenix at the age of three. She graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1953. During her teen years she was a model, dance instructor and appeared on a number of local television programs. In addition, she won numerous local beauty contests and pageants. Her father, J. O. Watson, her mother, Jean Lonsdale and her stepfather, L. C. Lonsdale, preceded her in death. Her marriage to a career naval officer took her to many corners of the world and to every state in the United States except Alaska. For the past several years she has enjoyed living the summer months in their cabin in Oak Creek Canyon and some of the winter months in their hacienda in San Felipe, Mexico. Survivors include her husband, Thomas, daughters, Launi Peeke-Vout, Stacy Smith, Kelly Felice and Becky Smith; and six grandchildren, Travis, John, Shane, Stephanie, Rand and Bryce, all who reside in the Phoenix area. A memorial service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery on Monday, April 7, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: The Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E.
