KAKES, Melvin Joseph


Evergreen Mortuary, Tucson, Arizona ~ October 7th 2009 Melvin Joseph Kakes, 75 of Tucson, passed away October 4, 2009. He was born in Neva, WI, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Stasek) Kakes. Melvin served with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He finished his military duty in California and stayed to work in the airline industry and start his family. He retired after 30 years as an aircraft maintenance supervisor. About 19 years ago he and his wife moved to Tucson. He was hired by Lockheed to be a hanger manager. Since that time he has been a consultant to the airline industry and has spent more time with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lola J. (McNally) Kakes; his sons Michael Kakes, Randy Griffiths, Darrell Griffiths; his daughters, Carrie Van Zalk and Stephanie Kakes. He was the proud grandfather of Andrea Griffiths, Nicholas Hildago, Sophie Van Zalk and Anissa Griffiths. Melvin leaves siblings; Betty Lidner, Bob Kakes and Gene Kakes of Antigo, WI, Edna Curtis of Milwaukee and Evelyn Turznik of Florida. Melvin loved his family. He will be remembered as a supportive and nurturing husband and father. A service will be held Friday, October 9, 11 AM at EVERGREEN MORTUARY. Burial with military honors will follow in EVERGREEN CEMETERY. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Melvin’s name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 3877 North 7th St., Ste. # 300, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
