OSWALT, Lena

Kingman Daily Miner, Kingman, Arizona Sunday, January 03, 2010 Lena Oswalt, age 93, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, Calif. Lena was a long-time resident of Kingman. She and her husband, Bill Oswalt, moved to Kingman in 1951 and owned and operated Kimo Café in the 1950s and then Bill Oswalt's Restaurant on West Highway 66 from 1955 to 1969. Every day, Lena made the homemade pies for which the restaurant was famous. Bill's passion was team roping, and he and Lena got to know the ranchers and cowhands who epitomized early Mohave County. Bill passed away in 1982 and Lena moved to Mesa, where she lived for 15 years in her own home. In 1999, she moved to La Crescenta, Calif., to be closer to her daughter, Kay, and son, David. In California, she lived independently until she was 91 and learned to love the Dodgers. Lena is survived by her children, Judie, David, Roy and Kay, all of whom grew up in Kingman; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
