Marvin A. "Duke" Schrank was born July 14, 1936, in Sibley County, Minn.; he passed away peacefully after along illness on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009.
He was raised in San Francisco. Duke served in the Marine Corps for 13 years, went to Korea, was attached to the State Department as a courier for four years, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam.
After returning home, he went to work for the Orange County Sheriff's Department as a deputy for 18 years. He was retired on a disability due to an accident.
He enjoyed fishing with his pals from the Sheriff's Department, woodworking and reading, and was an avid baseball fan.
He is survived by long-time partner, Shara Mowrey; three children, Jon, Jennifer and Joseph; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and Rita Schrank, the mother of his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Margaret Schrank; brother, Donald; and sister, Edith, Marian and Helen.
