NORRIS, Joseph Alexander


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, December 31, 2009 Joseph Alexander Norris, age 59, passed away on Dec. 22, 2009, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Ariz. He was born on June 19, 1950, in Smithfield, N.C. Joe graduated from Eau Claire High School, Columbia, S.C. He was a licensed electrician and computer technician by trade. Joe was a proud member of AA and NA for over 30 years. He started the first NA meeting in Columbia, S.C., that is still going strong today. In 1999, Joe helped create A Sober Way Home Inc. in Prescott, Ariz. It is still going strong today. In 1995, he rode his Harley from South Carolina to California. He then traveled on the ground over 30,000 miles across the United States. He loved to travel. Joe was a teacher of mankind. He helped many people in his lifetime. He was a gentle and generous man. Joe served his country in The Tank Battalion, U.S. Army in Germany. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, William James Norris and Janice Eleanor Lee Norris; and his wife, Linda Lee Schueler Norris. He is survived by his girlfriend of 16 years, Sandra Jo Tillman and her family; children Joseph Norris Jr. (Tonya) of Gaston, S.C., Christina Geiger (Gary) of Sandy Run, S.C.; grandchildren Joseph Norris III and Abigail Norris; siblings William Norris (Pat) of Columbia, S.C., Barbara Loney (Mike) of West Columbia, S.C., Richard Norris (Margaret) of Austin, Texas, and Rosemary Culler (David) of Columbia, S.C.; nieces and nephews Michael Loney and Shannon Carpenter, Zachary Brewington, and Aaron and Stephen Culler; great-nieces and -nephews, Veronica and Garrick Loney, Isabelle and Brodie Carpenter, and Taylor Brewington; friends Mike and Jennifer Colclasure, Parker (Johnson) Colclasure, Mikey and Carter Colclasure, Bob Tillman, and a world of other friends. A Celebration of Life will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, in the Fireside Room at the Heritage Memory Mortuary, 131 Grove Ave., Prescott, AZ 86301.
