Charles Frederick Eberhardt, 92 of Prescott, Arizona, passed away peacefully at the Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, AZ on December 24th from complications of lung cancer. Mr. Eberhardt was born in Peoria, Illinois on October 4, 1917. His parents were Charles Eberhardt and Mildred (White).
He was an exceptional athlete and a high school football star at Manual High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Thomas in 1938. His sons, Richard and Jerrold Eberhardt were born in 1939 and 1941.
Mr. Eberhardt joined Caterpillar's Apprentice Program - the world's leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment-after high school graduation in 1936. He had a long and successful career at Caterpillar that included two overseas assignments in Scotland and Belgium. Prior to his retirement in 1979, he completed his career as Plant Manager of Caterpillar's Aurora plant, and Manufacturing Manager of Caterpillar's largest plant in East Peoria, IL.
Mr. Eberhardt's first wife, Dorothy, passed away in 1989. He married Irma Claycomb Dikeman in 1991 and relocated to Arizona. He was an avid golfer, bowler, card player and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Irma Eberhardt of Prescott, Arizona and her family; his two sons, Richard Eberhardt of New York City and Jerrold Eberhardt (Margaret) of Los Angeles, three granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 12 pm at the Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel, 13738 W Camino Del Sol Drive, Sun City West, AZ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of CF Eberhardt to the American Lung Association of the Southwest 102 West McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85003.
