SANBORN, John W.


John W. Sanborn, 54, of Mesa, died Dec. 19, 2000 after a 2-year courageous struggle with ALS. Survived by his wife Pam of 32 years, daughter Sharon, son Keith, Keith's wife Lisa, beloved family cat Shadow; sister Jane, 3 nephews and a niece. John also had the support of many friends from work and his motorcycle group. Prior to living in AZ for 27 years, he lived in Massachusetts where he received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from UMass. He was the recipient of several engineering awards, and in 1999 was elected to the position of Fellow in The American Society of Mechanical Engineers Int'l. He was a combustion engineering supervisor at Honeywell until January 2000. Family times were important to John as they hiked, camped and traveled together. John also greatly enjoyed home improvement projects, motorcycle rides, viewing car races and ice hockey games, listening to contemporary music. He parasailed in Tahiti & bungy jumped in Australia! John will be sadly missed and loved forever by family and friends, but he leaves behind lasting memories of his humor and candor. Memorial service Sat 12/23/2000 St. Matthews Methodist Church, Mesa.
