Billy Lloyd Trammell, 75, of Springerville went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jan. 4, 2010. He was born June 3, 1934, in Hollis, Okla., to Joseph and Minnie Trammell.
He was raised in Seminole, Texas, graduating from Seminole High School in 1953. Bill accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 12. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1956 and served in the Arctic Brigade in Greenland until 1958. He married Allie Mae Keel, the love of his life, in August 1959 in Seagraves, Texas.
The couple moved to Mesa in 1960 where Bill worked as a mechanic at Roosevelt Dairy. Their first child, Pam, was born in 1961. In 1962, they moved to Springerville, where Bill worked for Hall Motors, Jim's Garage and Becker Motor Company. Their son Joe was born in 1965. Bill operated his own mechanic business, Springerville Automotive, from 1967 to 1995 and was a respected businessman in the community.
Bill loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a gunsmith for many years. He and Allie spent the summer of 2004 on the Prince of Wales Island in Alaska catching halibut and salmon as well as viewing wildlife and the beautiful scenery. Bill and Allie just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August 2009. Bill was a faithful servant to his Lord serving as a deacon, Sunday School director and teacher for many years at First Southern Baptist Church in Springerville. There were many times that he reached out to help others in need.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father and a true friend who will be greatly missed.
Bill is survived by his wife Allie Mae; two children Pam (Barry) Kortanand Joe Trammell, both from Springerville; two grandchildren Heather and Emily Kortan; sister Jo Helen Rice of Abilene, Texas; niece Ginger (Terry) Test, Novice, Texas; great niece DeDe (Steve) Barth of Ft. Worth, Texas and great nephew Victor Test of San Diego, Calif. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Minnie and brother James (Tink) Trammell.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Springerville.
