Eva S. Jungermann, Phoenix, passed away June 25, 2002. Born in Germany, Eva made her way to Phoenix in 1972 via New York and Chicago.
She attended Black Mountain College in Ashville, N.C., before completing her undergraduate degree and earning a Masters Degree in English from the University of Iowa. An icon in the local arts community, Eva served on various Boards of the Phoenix Art Museum, the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Society of Arts and Letters, and the Phoenix Bach Choir. Eva was an accomplished poet, writer and editor, having published two books, "Primary Perceptions" and "Poets at Play", and contributed 14 interviews to World Artists 1980-1990, edited by C. Marks of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. She was one of the founders and managing editor of Focus on Art, a contemporary art and poetry journal published by the International Friends of Transformative Art. Eva was a strong advocate for furthering the visibility and careers of aspiring artists, as evidenced by the numerous art catalogues to which she contributed and by the establishement of the Jungermann Family Endowment, which underwrites awards to Arizona artists at the Phoenix Triennial sponsored by the Phoenix Art Museum.
Eva is survived by her husband Eric, son William, and grandson Wilson.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2002, at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, 7380 E.2nd St., Scottsdale. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Phoenix Art Museum, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art or the Phoenix Bach Choir.
