ALVAREZ, Margarita

(Maiden Name: Alonso)

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Tuesday, April 8, 2003 Margarita Alvarez Alonso, 82, died April 4, 2003 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born on November 1, 1920 in Mexico to Juan and Rafaela Alonso. She graduated from Normal School and went on to become a teacher. Her love for children inspired her to be the creative, fun-loving kindergarten teacher that everyone sought. Because of her tremendous talent and love for poetry, she was often invited to perform poetry readings for civic organizations and social events. She married Carlos Alvarez, an architect, in 1942 in Chihuahua City; and they had four children. In 1957 the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she became an exemplary Proverbs 31 Woman. Undaunted by cultural differences, she managed to raise her children in a warm and loving atmosphere. She was full of energy, always ready for a new project, whether it be her roses, prize-winning cakes, crafts, or raising canaries. All of these things were infused with her love for life and artistic creativity. Her love for God was the foundation for everything she did. She saw her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as her final reward on earth. "Her children arise and call her Blessed" Prov. 31:28. She is survived by her brother Jesus Alonso and by her sister Rafaela Alonso of Chihuahua City and by her daughters Flor Hickman and her husband Neil; Pat Rios and her husband Peter; Maria Blayter and her husband Bob; and by her son Carlos and his wife Bobbi. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Bill Hegel, Rob Trumble, Eric Shea, Gary Hegel, April Greene, Tony Alvarez, John Blayter, Andrea Alvarez, 16 great-grandchildren, and her ex-husband, Carlos Alvarez Sr. Margarita's life will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 8th at Nativity Lutheran Church, 1351 East Guadalupe Road, Gilbert, Arizona.
