JARVIE, George McKinley


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Tuesday, April 8, 2003 George McKinley Jarvie of Paradise Valley, a loving and beloved husband, father & friend, passed away April 5, 2003 at the age of 73. He was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, one of four brothers. He was employed in the family insurance business in Flint, prior to a position at General Motors and subsequently moving to Phoenix and employment at Motorola. In 1966 he embarked on his own and formed Jarvie Insurance Agency in Mesa, later moving to Scottsdale. He, along with a group of auto dealers, formed Trans City Life Insurance Company. This was followed by the formation of Overland Management in Scottsdale and Oversea Yacht Insurance of San Diego. He was happiest when sailing out of San Diego on his yacht, always loving to be near the water. In 1984, he took to the highways in a motor home, cruising the United States and parts of Canada. Having a zest for life, he was always eager for new adventures. He enjoyed foreign travel to Europe, Russia, China, Tibet and the trails of the Himalayan Range. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of 50 years; four sons, Ron, David & George of Phoenix & Scott of San Diego; one daughter, Sharon of Augusta, Maine and ten grandchildren. Mr. Jarvie is also survived by two brothers, John of Flint and Robert of Phoenix. Visitation will be 2-4PM & 5-8PM, Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Rd. Funeral Mass will be 10AM, Thursday, April 10, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11001 N. 40th St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Barrow Neurological Institute, 2910 N. 3rd Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85013.
