Bert Franklin Abbott, 86, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2002. Born April 6, 1916 in North Baltimore, Ohio, he moved to Phoenix with his family upon his retirement in 1979.
After serving his country as a pilot in the U.S. Navy Transport Division during World War II, Bert worked 15 years for J.C. Penney establishing their automotive centers across the country, and was a chief mechanic for the Indianapolis 500 for several years. Bert was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Anne; daughter Joan Crook of Dunedon, Florida; Sons George and David Abbott of Phoenix; his sister Lydia of Bowling Green, Ohio; grandchildren Michelle Crook, Carol Donahue, Thomas Crook II, Amy Abbott and Keri Abbott and one great grandchild, Sharon Donahue.
Visitation Monday, December 2, 2002 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 11300 N. 64th St., Scottsdale, AZ. Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment at St. Francis Cemetery, Phoenix, AZ. Arrangements by Whitney & Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home.
