BERRY, Lenard

Lenard Berry, 84, lives in the arms of Jesus Christ our Savior. Welcoming him home are Rose, his beloved wife of 58 years; mother Alice, father Walker; brothers Leon, Eugene, and grandson Steve. He is the loving father of Cheryl and Russ Bean, Lyn Somerville, Mike and Jan Berry, grandfather of Kristie and Scott Audet, JG and Devin Somerville, Jamie Bean, Chad Somerville and Sara Berry, great grandfather of Camryn and Julia Somerville and brother of Lorene Powers and Martha Blackburn Lenard was born in Payson, Oklahoma and grew up in Wichita, Kansas. He and Rose raised their family in Des Flames, Illinois and retired to Chandler, Arizona. Lenard served his country as a sergeant in the Army and was a proud veteran of World War II. In Arizona, he was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and active in their Senior Adult Ministries group. He enjoyed spending time with family, woodworking, sports, and spoiling his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends, unique sense of humor and the rare ability to make everyone he met feel special. Lenard spent a lifetime preparing for eternity and taught his family to do the same. Visitation was held at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Rd. Scottsdale, on Saturday, November 30th, 2002. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 1st. A memorial service will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1035 E. Guadalupe, Tempe, AZ 85253 on Sunday, December 1st at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may he made to Gethsemane Lutheran Church. The Arizona Republic December 1, 2002
