The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, April 9, 2003 Gladys [Harrison] Eldert, age 89, beloved homemaker, grandmother and sister, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on April 3, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Joliet, Illinois, September 30th, 1913 to Ralph and Viola Harrison, Gladys graduated from New Trier High School in 1931. She married Robert Kenneth Eldert of Northbrook, Illinois on October 15th, 1941. Gladys and Robert lived in Glenview until 1978, when they retired to Phoenix. Survivors include her daughter Roberta [Donald] Hawksworth, of Surprise, AZ; son James [Jacqui] Eldert, of Wauseon, OH; her sister Shirley [William] Heinel of Haddonfield, NJ, sister-in-law, Dorothy [Gordon] Harrison, of Melbourne, FL, and brother-in-law William Eldert, of Morton Grove, IL; four Grandchildren, Jon Hawksworth, Alison Eldert, Jill [Cleber] Fontes, and Daniel [Kristin] Hawksworth; three great grandchildren, Tatiana, Nicolas, and Emily Fontes; and many nieces and nephews. Gladys worked at Baxter Corporation during WWII, and Carson Pirie Scott until she retired. She was active in the Glenview Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Royal Neighbors of America. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert [1983], brother Gordon, [2002], and sister-in-law Ruth Eldert [1998], a private memorial service will be held Sunday, April 13th, at the home of Don and Roberta Hawksworth. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery.
