The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Thursday, April 10, 2003 Kim Weatherly Benedict, 42, ended a brave struggle against Leukemia on April 7, 2003. She passed away peacefully leaving her husband, D. Brett Benedict and two daughters, Bethany and Jennifer Benedict, her father Dean Weatherly and his wife, Trisha Georgeff, sister Kandra Petersen and her family and two brothers, Kevin and Kris Weatherly, and their families. She was preceded in death by her mother, Fern Weatherly in December 2002. Dedicated to her husband, her children, and her God, she also leaves many other friends and family that were encouraged by the faith and love that characterized her life. Kim was born May 16, 1960 in Big Spring, Texas and moved to Casa Grande, AZ in her early teen years. Kim graduated from Casa Grande Union High School and the University of Arizona. She touched many lives through her teaching, work with youth groups, counseling and encouraging parents in educating and advocating for their children, serving on the board of directors of Raising Special Kids, the Governors Task Force for Educational Reform, the Governor's Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers, Casa Grande Valley Cotton Women, and as a Parent Advocate for families with special needs through the Arizona Center for Disability Law. In addition, she served in leadership positions in local and statewide home schooling organizations. There will be a Gathering to celebrate her life Friday, April 11, 2003 from 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. and a Funeral Service at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 12, 2003 both at the First Presbyterian Church, 702 E. Cottonwood Ln., Casa Grande, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Raising Special Kids, 2400 N.
