Marjorie King Harris, 92, passed away in Carefree, Arizona, March 28, 2003. She was an adoring & supportive wife, loving & attentive mother, a proud and loving grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was born Sept. 19, 1910 in Oklahoma City, OK to Mr. & Mrs. Harry H.H. King. She attended the University of Kansas, was active in the Chi Omega Sorority, graduated from Stephens College, & the Kansas City Art Institute, where she met her husband Robert G. Harris. They married in 1935 in Kansas City, MO, and had a wonderful happy marriage for 67 years.
In addition to being a major support to her husbands career of renown magazine illustrator, Marjorie loved her hobbies, which included sculpture, knitting, gourmet cooking. In 1953, the family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona (from Westport, CT), where Marjorie was active in her church, became a docent at the Phoenix Art Museum & continued her interest in sculpture.
In 1970, they moved to Carefree, Arizona, where Marjorie was instrumental in establishing the Christian Science Church of Carefree. She also volunteered in the reading program for Second Grade at the Desert Sun Elementary School. In 1998, she was proud to be chosen a "Volunteer of the Year" by the school.
Her husband Robert, son Craig and wife Susie daughter Marcia and husband Terry Sewell, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren have been touched by a truly remarkable angel.
