Joseph Paul
Joseph Paul Hogg, born in Chicago, July 16, 1941, died of cancer June 7, 2003.
Joe was severely disabled with cerebral palsy from birth. He came to Phoenix in 1965 with his parents, Reuben and Mary Hogg. Joe's parents never stopped believing in his abilities and invented many pieces of equipment and methods of communication for him. He mirrored his parents' determination and perseverance and despite his handicap, worked his way through schooling ending up at ASU. There he earned his BS degree in Physics and an MA degree in Math finishing college with a 3.6 GPA.
He was a member of the National Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma, Pi Mu Epsilon and Phi Kappa Phi. After graduation he worked for Honeywell as a contract computer engineer and later was hired as an employee. Honeywell later sold to Bull HN Information Systems. All told he spent 27 years working in computer science. He won many awards over the years including the National Award of Honor as "Disabled Employee of the Year." His computer art is hanging in the Governor's Conference Room in Phoenix.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Allan Chartrand of Paradise Valley and sister, Doris Bradford of Chicago.
A memorial open house to celebrate his life will be held at his home Saturday, June 14, 2003 from 10:00 to noon. Contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Valley.
