HEBERT, Evelyn

(Maiden Name: Hall)

Evelyn Hebert. On June 7, 2003, just one month and a day short of her 90th birthday, Evelyn Hebert peacefully passed into the hands of her Lord and to join her husband Roland G. Hebert, who preceded her in death by some 8 years. Evelyn and Roland were married 3 months short of 60 years and had 3 children together. A devoted wife and loving mother, she is survived by her sons, Gilbert and Robert Hebert, both of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter Evelyn Barrett of Las Vegas, Nevada and daughters-in-law Carol and Stephenie Hebert. Evelyn is also survived by her sister Thelma of Palm Springs, California and 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Born in Houston, Texas July 8, 1913 the daughter of Fred and Jessie Hall, Evelyn moved from Humble, Texas in 1950 with her husband and family to Los Angeles, California. In 1976 Evelyn and Roland moved to Mesa, Arizona and opened Abear's Smoked Meats & BBQ. They later moved to Apache Junction and eventually settled in Payson, Arizona until Roland's death in 1995. Evelyn had been living most recently at Loyalton of Phoenix Assisted Living Home. Words alone cannot describe the emptiness that a mother leaves behind in her children. We miss you, love you and thank you for all the sacrifices you made for us, the love you gave us and for being our mother. You have left this valley and we will miss your blue eyes and bright smile, but we will never forget you. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday June 13th at the Cornerstone Baptist Church at 4041 E. Phelps Road in Phoenix. Friends and family are welcome and in lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley. Published in The Arizona Republic on 6/11/2003.
