Anne Fisher McFarland, Longtime York resident Anne Fisher McFarland died in Carefree, Arizona, on April 23, 2003. She was 90 years old. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, May 9th at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary Chapel, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. Born Anna La Rue Broomell in York on September 11, 1912, Mrs. McFarland was the daughter of Albert P. and Janet G. Broomell. She was graduated from York Collegiate Institute and married Edward H. Fisher in 1934. She worked for the American Red Cross during World War II and was a member of the York Junior League, serving as League president in the 1950s. The Fishers were members of the First Presbyterian Church of York. The Fishers moved to the Chicago area in 1952, then to New Jersey in 1957. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1961. After another period in Chicago, they returned to Arizona permanently in 1968, where Edward Fisher died in 1971. Mrs. McFarland moved to Cave Creek, Arizona in 1972. She married J. Arthur Porter in 1975 and moved to Carefree. In 1989 Mrs. McFarland married William D. McFarland, and they lived in Carefree until she died on April 23rd. Mrs. McFarland is survived by her husband, William D. McFarland, her daughter, Janet Fisher Barstad of Tempe, AZ, her son, William J. Fisher of Wilmette, IL, and grand-children, Ashley Fisher, Wendie Fisher White, and Camille Fisher. Published in the Arizona Republic on 5/4/2003.
