Don Edward
Don Edward Moon, 75, formerly of Buckeye, Arizona and long-time Parker resident, passed away June 5, 2003 after a two-year battle with lung cancer. Don was born March 16, 1928 in Kokomo, Indiana.
He came to Arizona in 1931 with his family and homesteaded on the desert near Palo Verde, Arizona. After graduating from Buckeye Union High School in 1946, Don went to work for the State of Arizona trapping beaver along the Colorado River, before being sworn in as a Game Ranger at age 21.
He was sent to Parker in 1950 where he worked until his retirement from the Arizona Game and Fish in 1972, he then trapped for the ADC until 1993 and continued to trap in the Parker Valley for the woolgrowers until 2002. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping and archery and was well known throughout Arizona for his skill and knowledge.
Don's greatest source of pride and joy were his children and especially his grandchildren whom he loved so much.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Moon of Kokomo, Indiana and Martha Franklin of Buckeye, Arizona, brothers Ben Moon and Jim Moon also of Buckeye and grandson Cody Romo of Parker, Arizona.
Don is survived by wife Yvonne of 53 years, daughter Meridith Avalos of Parker, sons Don Moon of Prescott Arizona, Fred Moon of Tempe, Arizona, sisters June Vogt and Jane Floutz of Michigan, grandchildren Clay Romo and Leah Avalos and great-grandson Caysen Romo of Parker, Arizona.
Visitation was held June 8, 2003 at the Parker Funeral Home, services June 9, 2003 at Grace Assembly of God with interment at the Parker Cemetery. Donations can be made in Don's memory to the American Cancer Society of Rancho Mirage, CA, Desert Palms office(760)568-2691 press 3.
