The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, January 20, 2010 Cynthia Murr, born in 1919, passed away Jan. 17, 2010. She was a Chicagoan, a musician and an English professor who went to the University of Chicago and earned a B.A. and an M.A. She married her college sweetheart, an attorney. They went through the war beginning at Harvard University where her husband trained to be an Ensign in communications, U.S. Navy. A daughter was born, Priscilla, who was later to become a psychoanalyst in Austin, Texas. Priscilla graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, as well as a diploma from the C.G. Jung Institute, Zurich. James was born after the war and now lives in Santa Maria, Calif., having recently retired as auditor controller of Santa Barbara County. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. and M.A. Cynthia was affiliated with the Los Angeles Unified School District for many years. During her years there, she spent three years teaching on KCOP Channel 13, Los Angeles. She interviewed the authors in the area, notable musicians such as Marilyn Horne, diva of the Metropolitan Opera, and several gold medalists of the Olympics on a "profile in courage" series. The University of Tehran, Iran, invited her to teach English at the women's college, Damavand, from 1975 to 1978. During her time there, she met the Shah and the Empress of Iran, pictures of who were on her wall in her Las Fuentes apartment. A great part of her life was her love of the piano, her major hobby all of her years. Not only an hour and a half of Gershwin, Cole Porter and the forties music in the Las Fuentes dining room, but also she accompanied through the years such artists as Harve Presnell, who later went onto Broadway to play Johnny Brown in the "Unsinkable Molly Brown." Cynthia spoke about her life as having been vibrant, challenging and a great adventure, including her final adventure, which she was truly looking forward to. Information provided by survivors.
